Following state regulations to distracted driving is key, especially since every state has different rules for what is illegal, what is not, and what steps they are taking to ensure the roads stay safe and the drivers are making good choices. Currently, 16 states prohibit drivers of all ages from using hand-held cell phones while driving.

Some states have recently increased the fine for distracted driving, like Colorado increasing the penalty in 2017 to $300, while a number of states have also expanded their laws to beyond the no-texting ban. However, despite this movement forward, there are still challenges in enforcing cell phone use.
